چکیده

We propose to detect the charge redistribution of an antibody-antigen complex (a precipitate), formed in a layer on top of an ISFET, by means of a.c. measurements. In fact an increased specific conductivity of the precipitate is detected, caused by the amount of counterions, which is related to the fixed protein charge in the precipitate. We observed that an HSA-antiHSA immune complex, deposited onto an ISFET after immersing in an electrolyte, resulted in a cutoff frequency (-3 dB) that was considerably higher than that of a bare ISFET. The cut-off frequency decreased due to outdiffusion of ions until an equilibrium value was reached, but this was still higher than the typical value for the original bare ISFET. It was concluded that in the equilibrium state, the increased conductivity of the protein layer was the result of the counterions, which screen the fixed charges in the precipitate. Ionic strength and pH cause important changes in the effects. The measurement of the cut-off frequency may be used to determine the isoelectric point of a protein complex.

THE INFLUENCE OF DRY SLIDING ON PRCIPITATION HARDENING BEHAVIORS OF Al-Cu-Si ALLOY

Abstract: Cold working performed before an aging treatment has a significant effect on size and amount of precipitate produced. This could be caused by the increase in defect density, such as vacancies and dislocations. In this research, the Al-Cu-Si alloy was solution-treated, wear-tested and then artificially aged for a period of 1–5 h. Changes in the amount of precipitate, in the lattice par...

Competitive Immunological Detection of Progesterone by Means of the Ion-step Induced Response of an ImmunoFET

The ion-step method was originally designed to measure immunoreactions via the change in charge density which occurs in an antibody loaded membrane, deposited on an ISFET, upon reaction with a charged antigen. In this paper we show the possibility of detecting an immunoreaction involving a non-charged antigen, progesterone, by using competitive binding of progesterone and a charged progesterone...

A new approach to immunoFET operation.

A new method is presented for the detection of an immunological reaction taking place in a membrane, which covers the gate area of an ISFET. By stepwise changing the electrolyte concentration of the sample solution, a transient diffusion of ions through the membrane-protein layer occurs, resulting in a transient membrane potential, which is measured by the ISFET. The diffusion rate is determine...

When Do We Feel Sorry for Others? : An Externality of Lake Use as an Example

The purpose of the study was to verify, through the use of an experimental method, the assumption that the ‘economic human’ pays more attention to the externality he/she causes as the strength of externality increases. We used a social-experiment design within an undergraduate classroom to test assumptions, using statistical method. A lakeside plant was used as an example. Our results confirmed...

HOW ELECTRICAL AND CHEMICAL MAY COINCIDE REQUIREMENTS FOR REFETs

After discussing the features of a differential ISFET/REFET measuring concept, the published attempts to construct a proper REFET are summarized. It is concluded that the present REFETs are based upon the addition of a blocking polymeric layer to the gate surface of an ISFET, but that this approach fails with respect to the required insensitivity to ionic strength variations as well as with res...
